Default Solving Reputation Troubles

A lot of the time, reputation is sent out with no name, although it's nice to know who's giving the rep. Sometimes, people will want to remain anonymous, whereas some people may not realise that rep is sent out with no name. To try and achieve a balance between these sides, a member of the tdzk.net community thought an option to give a name out with reputation could be useful.

Underneath the box to enter a comment would be a check box, selected by default, saying "Add my name to reputation", or words to that effect. Anyone who wants to remain anonymous can un-tick it, whereas anyone who wants their name appending to the point, even if they are in a hurry and wouldn't want to type it, have it sent automatically to the reputation target/victim.

As for how the recipient can see the username of the person who rated him:
A whole new column could added to the Latest Reputation Received table in the User CP with the title 'Sender' or similar. If the sender chooses to reveal their name, it will appear in this column. If they prefer anonymity, something like "Anonymous" will appear instead.

Along with that i need a way to make reputation comments mandatory cause blank comments don't really help you improve and as far as i am concerned reputation should help you improve the quality of your posts.

It would really be great if someone was able to offer such a modification as it would improve the experience for the tdzk.net users considerably.

Thanks a lot in advance 8472

I guess I'm not exactly sure what it is you are wanting to do.

ok i'll try to do it step by step

if someone clicks the reputation buttion it pops up another small window that let's you choose between "i approve" and "i disapprove". additionaly you may enter a comment to make it more obvious why you gave the reputation hit.

so the first thing i would love to see implemented is making those comments a must. that you may not submit a reputation hit without having entered something in the comment field.

---

reputation needs to be anonimous to prevent warlike situations, in which people are hitting someone else's reputation in return just cause he/she gave a neg rep hit to the person in the first place.

some of users started signing their reputation comments though and that leaves the rather disturbing possibility that someone might just sign with another name.

in the popup you give rep in there could be a radio select that has the options "sign" and "do not sign". it is set to sign by default though.

if someone wants to have his comment signed he will leave the option as it is by default and the recipient will see who gave him the reputation hit. (just like how reputation his are displayed for admins in the user cp, with the "posted by" column)

if someone wants to stay anonimous he will set the option to do not sign and the "posted by" column will say something like anonimous .. or unsigned.

---

i really hope that helps to clear things up a bit

Ahhh, ok, now I understand.

First point: Requiring a comment can be a good idea unless you get those that will put things like spaces or LKJMM or things like that just to bypass that. So you might end up regretting that part of it.

Second point: Why would anyone want to give repuatiuon anonymously? Isn't that the whole idea behind the repuation system? Beacuse if you do that, you will get the user who goes around anonymously giving users bad rep to make his better. Kind of dangerous, I would think.

That is just my opinion, though, so it doesn't mean your idea isn't good. I would just never set it up like that. But we all have different types of users so maybe this would work for you.

well you can't really prevent that in any way, but making it at least mandatory should already help. maybe a min character limit would be good too, just like for posts.

i just hope that this will encourage more people to write a real comment than it will encourage to spam.

There are two major things about anonymous reputation.

1st: if you give a negative point to a jerk for a valid reason he will not be able to "retaliate". otherwise this could create really a lot of bad blood within a community.

2nd: being anonimous allows you a lot more honesty, that's just like an election. people tend not to say what they think if they have to do it public.

-----

although we do encourage our users to sign their reputation comments i wouldn't like to force my users to sign. reputation for me is more a tool to help the bad ones to improve than to tell the good ones how good they really are.

though the problem with the anonymous reputation is that people tend to send quite offensive reputation comments from time to time .. but due to our rather good fraud tracking devices we were so far able to keep that kind of abuse on a very small scale. the same goes for signing with a wrong name

there is a default option to see who has given reputation. it's in the usergroup manager under reputation options.
