But would if users have popup blockers? This could easily be done, but thought i would bring that to your attention. I have FireFoxes popup blocker, and Googles for IE and it would stop that from showing on my screen. I'm sure others have it as well.

well google will notify you of popups being blocked on a page and then you can choose to allow popups on the page. firefox i am unaware of how their popup feature works.
for those using XP, Service Pack 2(free and recently released), and Window's New Pop Up Blocker for IE then it will display a notification telling you Windows has blocked X popups and how to retrieve information about them anyways a popup login wouldn't be too bad and maybe make a user-end option if their member if they want to see it |

What about a javascript pop-up? Then only SP2 would block it but you can still get it easily :-D

well, i want one for my front page. so that there isn't a login box right on the front page.. for example:
A user clicks the 'Login' button and it pops up. Then the user is logged in the forums and the login button changes to 'log out' |

How about a user clicks on login and it directs them to the login page? Either way i'll see what i can do.
