adding a field question

This is regarding Vb3 (RC4 at the moment)

I'm going to add a field to post table and wanted to see if anyone can save me some time by telling me which files I will need to modify.

I'm going to add a field called "author" and it will contain the name of the author of the article with may be different than the user id of the poster.

Its easy enough to add the field to the posts table, but what about making it useable?

I've added a new set of child templates (this field will only be used in 1 forum) and I want the user to be able to enter this field right below the Title when they enter a new thread.

I also want to be able to display this field on the post and in the thread list.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the follow:

1.) What template do I edit to create an input box for this field?
2.) What script do I edit to save this field in the database when the thread is submitted?
3.) What script do I edit to retrieve this field for displaying in the thread list?
4.) What template do I edit to display this field in the thread list?
5.) What script do I edit to retrieve this field for displaying in the post?
6.) What template do I edit to display this field in the post?

I really apprecaite any help with this. If you can just get me pointed in the right direction I can handle the rest.

Update:

I'm moving along with this and have created the field in the tables thread and post and modified the scripts newthread.php and functions_newpost.php and the template newthread.

So far I'm able to store this value into the new field in the database.

Next I will work on being able to edit it, and finally display it.

Could you go through the steps here or PM me. It looks like you added a new text field (Author), which seems like it would be like adding another title field. I'm trying to add a new text area which is a little different. Everything works except, with my modified forumdisplay.php, only the first post is listed. If you want to check mine out PM me for the info for the info on my test board.
