This hack will make the board software count how many times a post has been edited and show the corresponding information in the 'Edited by' line that appears below a post's message text. For existing posts that have been edited in the past, it will assume a modification count of one.

SQL Queries: 2
File Modifications: 2 (editpost.php, admin/functions.php)
Template Modifications: 1 (postbit_editedby)

This hack was tested with vBulletin 2.2.7 and 2.3.3 . I'm confident it will work with every version of vBulletin in the 2.2.x and 2.3.x branches. Probably even with older versions.

A screenshots of the hack in action is included in the ZIP archive and attached to this thread, showing a plain vBulletin 2.3.3 modified according to the instructions given in editedbycounter_v1.txt.

Surprised this hasnt been done already. Nice work mate is a nice little addition, Congrats!

Well, of course this is subject to the board options - per default, the 'Edited by' line only appears if the modification takes place at least two minutes after a post was created, for example. You can also chose not to display 'Edited by' at all or only for regular users and not for Admins. The hack doesn't change this behavior. Sure you took that into account?

On the final template edit on there though you might want to change the ; too a , on this bit here

Well, according to what I learned in school, you'd definitely want a ";" there .

I'm going to leave it as is for now, it's transparent enough for anyone to change it during the installation process if they really want to. Still, thanks for your suggestion!
