P-Groove Post Display Hack · **Released**: 09-14-2003

This is a quick n' dirty hack to generate a small 'power meter' similar to those found in some fighting videogames. The meter is made up of 4 coloured 'tiers' which reference to multiples of a user's post count.

No images are needed for this. I like the idea of some of the stars and pips hacks out there - I even tried one - but I soon found that some people didn't get any stars or pips because their postcounts were beyond the scope of the hack. This is generated using HTML tables and nothing more. However, you may notice a small speed decrease in your forums if a lot of grooves are to be parsed.

The hack code contains two arrays which you may want to tweak. The first, $pgtiers, contains the post multiples each tier should work on. The first tier value is set to nought '0' as it is null. The first value should also be null in the second array, $pgcolours, which contains the colours for the tiers in #hex.

$pgsize can double the size of the P-Groove if set to 2.

The P-Groove will only generate grooves up to 65,535 posts, which I believe is the vBulletin maximum. Many users on my forum have complained that people with more posts have smaller grooves, but I just tell them it's the colour that counts. After all, having a groove 852 segments long would be table-breaking O_o

When I learn how, you can expect version 2 of this hack to allow colour and size configuration from the AdminCP... If people want it, that is. I see it as an 'install and forget' hack.
