Zend Studio 3: free beta available
There is a free beta of Zend Studio 3 available (http://www.zend.com/). The new version supports PHP5 and (gasp) syntax error displaying, among other things. Hopefully this will end my seemingly never-ending quest to find a non-crappy PHP IDE. If there was something like IntelliJ IDEA for PHP, then I'd be heaven.
You need the JDK 1.4.2 to use ZS3, but there's a version of ZS3 that includes the JDK if you don't already have it. |

BTW, so far, reasonably good:

Shame it requires Java, other than that it looks pretty good. I'll be sticking with good old TextPad for now.

And as soon as it goes out of beta you have to pay again? And the users who use it are left with buggy software?

I find applications that run on the JVM very "sluggish". The Sun One Studio Java IDE runs rediculously slow.

Usually, I do, too. However Zend Studio seems to run very snappy for me--almost like native code. The only time it gets insanely slow is when it garbage collects (which is obvious).
So far, this is by far the best PHP IDE I've used. It's the last thing from the best IDE I've used for any language, but it puts Maguma Studio to shame. |

Personally I'm a big fan of HomeSite my Macromedia although orginally by Alliare (sp?). I find it hard to change because the highlighting is always different between programs and it is hard to get used to.
PS: Isn't it free anyways a least the personal edition |

There is a free version, but some stuff gets disabled after 21 days: http://www.zend.com/store/products/z...al.php#disable . I don't mind most of it except for block indenting and, as I'm learning vB3, more importantly Find in Files.

I installed it last night and it just isn't fast enough for me. I like its debugging features though
When I double click on a php file i like it to be opened instantly and the program is too bulky to do that on my desktop |
