If your database is backed up as an sql file, you can import it using phpMyAdmin.
The alternative is restoring using SSH. Try phpMyAdmin first. |

If your sql file is big, phpmyadmin may timeout. The most reliable restore is using SSH. Run this as root in the command line:
mysqldump --opt -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD DATABASENAME > /DIRECTORY/BACKUP.sql Replace the words in capital with your details. vB does not include a restore feature because large databases cannot be restored due to timeouts - you have to do it using SSH, |

Uh, also:
Do i need an empty database for the text file upload to work?...if so, then why are we getting Error There seems to be an error in your SQL query. The MySQL server error output below, if there is any, may also help you in diagnosing the problem ERROR: Invalid Identifer @ 1 STR: 2.2. SQL: 2.2.8|||New 1|||New 1|||New 1|||27|||20|||||||||{calbirthdaycolor}||| < SQL-query : 2.2.8|||New 1|||New 1|||New 1|||27|||20|||||||||{calbirthdaycolor}||| < MySQL said: You have an error in your SQL syntax near '2.2.8|||New 1|||New 1|||New 1|||27|||20|||<body>|||<body bgcolor="#414141" backg' at line 1' sorry for the triple post >.< but no one has answered yet o.o |

You dont insert the command using phpmyadmin, you just upload the .sql file.
As Erwin said, if phpmyadmin times out, use SSH Also, there was a hack released by N9ne (Called 'Main Control Panel') where you can upload .sql files. (Btw, its filburt1) |

The problems you are experiencing now explains why vbulletin does not have a default restore feature. Because of MYSQL & PHP restrictions you can not *always* have a reliable restore admin interface where you can click buttons and restore your database.
The only reliable method is telnet and this has nothing to do with vbulletin, it is a technical restriction. If you have telnet access, there is tutorial in vb.com that explains you how you can restore you database via telnet. If you don't have telnet access, you can upload the file to your server and ask your hosting company to restore it for you. PHPmyadmin solution may or may not work in your case. It is likely to NOT work especially if your db size is large or your hosts PHP/MYSQL settings for upload files are low or timeout duration is short etc. Neither not having a friendly restore interface in vbulletin, nor your losing your database is fault of vb developers. |
