A couple questions.

Okay, I'm planning on starting up a forum.

I have some questions, regarding vBulletin.

1. If I buy the Owned Liscense for $160, will I have to pay that fee again if/when a new version comes out?

2. When installed on a server, how much space will it take up on the server?

3. Will vB 3.0 be as hack-able as vB 2?

Thank you for taking a look at this. My main concern is the first one, because I am only 16 years old and money is a bit tight for me.

If you have a owned license then you will not have to pay anything again. BUT once your license goes in-active you will have to pay another $60 (I think) to get it active again. When it is in-active you can not download updates from the members section on vbulletin.com but you are allowed to keep running vBulletin on your server/domain. If you have a leased license then once it goes in-active you will be forced to remove vBulletin from your server/domain

2. How much space? I can't remember exactly but the PHP files should take less than 500 MB if that at all. It's when the forums get busy that the database grows.

3. vB3 should be MORE hackable. In fact, you can do a lot using template conditionals.

1. The member's area renewal fee is $30/year after the first year.
2. The PHP files take up a MB or so. The database varies wildly depending on the number of posts, attachments, etc.
3. vB3 will be no different in "hackability" () than vB2. However, it will be easier in parts due to template conditionals, as Erwin mentioned. Also some of vB3's functions are more centralized than vB2.
