Default User Database

Q: I understand that vB is using SQL as it's database for all members registered. What if my current site also requires registration to access certain areas and requires more information of the person like credit card information? Can i use the same database as vB to centralise the site's registration system?

A: What you say should work as long as there are no table name conflicts with the Vb table names.

Q: So i can make use of just one table of user profiles for the whole site? Would editing the table not affect the site's registration system or the forum registration system? If it is possible, then would credit card info be displayed when users click on other user's profiles? Or can i hide it?

A: If you want to use the same tables for vB and your site's registration, then this would require modifying the code, which we don't support officially. Try https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ for questions about code modifications.

All Questions from me while answers are from users from the VB community.

So can anyone tell me how can i have a universal registration system going?

Will security be a problem?

Yes, it is possible, but will require custom coding. It won't be too hard and can be done, but would take time.

Thanks for the reply.

Would additional coding interfere with future updates of VB?
Would it also break the licensing agreement?
Would i still get support for VB?

Additional coding would interfere with the future updates of vB. However with some careful guidance it should not affect it too much. For example if you modified your 2.2.9 and wanted to upgrade to 2.3.0 you can use the tutorial which can be found in our hacking hints and tips forum or simply follow the instructions about upgrading given in the members center and go back and re-apply any code changes.

No it does not break the license agreeement

You can still get support for your vBullein board here but at vBulletin.com they prefer to provide support for the code originally used in the software and not code that has been modified

Hope that answered your questions

All the best,
- Dean

It seems a little troublesome to follow a .txt file to fix an update.

But i guess i have no choice.

Thanks for all the help... should be on my getting my own copy of vB soon enough.

Kudos!

The problem of reapplying code modifications would apply to any PHP-based script, which includes vBulletin. You can always post in the Service Requests forum (once you buy vB, of course) offering payment for having an experienced coder upgrade your forums.

Your license agreement is not broken, as Dean said. What would break it is if you distributed an entire file that you modified (or didn't modify).
