how to upgrade from 2.3.0 to 3.0.0

how to upgrade from 2.3.0 to 3.0.0 ? my host dosent support telenet. how to i upgrade then ? i have 9hacks installed

If you are going to upgrade, you won't be able to keep your currently installed hacks, because most of them will not work with vB 3.

And for telnet, where does it say you need to telnet to the host? Looks like that is only for the mysqldump, which is not a necessity to upgrade (although it is suggested that you back up your forums).

allthough, if he created a 3.0.0 forum (and kept them as a test obviously) and installed all the version 3 hacks he wanted, then save his database on his current boards, will the database fit in with vB3?

Well, first of all, the hacks won't work with vB 3 unless someone modified them to work with it. And secondly, yes, I think the database will fit, although I haven't completely read through the procedure of upgrading.

Besides, some of those hacks are already built into vB3.

The database structure in vB2 is different in vB3 - the upgrade scripts will make the changes, but some hacks may add tables that conflict with vB3 tables - hence the database conflict check you can download.

No one can answer that question. If you upgrade following the instructions, probably not. But no one can predict this.
