Just cron a script to dump the database at least daily. Search and ye shall find.

If your host doesn't allow crons, you should instead attempt to solve that problem first, IMO at least
Bare minimum to run vB (IMO again): 1. PHP 4.3.0 2. MySQL 3 (latest version, but not 4 because it acts screwy with vB) 3. SSH 4. Cron |

i have all of the 4 listed, its just that to cron something i have to email them to have them set it for me. unlike my old host that allowed me to cron anything.

I am using MySQL 4.0.12 and it is working very well with vB.

I'm using that, too, on localhost, and so far it seems to be working okay, but when it was running on real WDF I was getting those thread.myi errors almost daily...

As it would be a PHP-based method, it would be unreliable. Your only option would be cron-based.
