Is there a hack to automatically upgrade

Is there a hack available that will automatically place a user into a usergroup of my choice based on their post counts?

For example, I have "registered" users, as soon as they register, but say after 30 posts they will automatically become a member by status & usergroup called member which will then give them permision to use the members forums, which is only accesable to the usergroup "member"

if you're lucky the public beta can start next month, but without luck it can also take some more time...
