I'm Disgusted
Hi,
I'm not going into the details of what has just happened but i'd just like to publicly say how inefficient the vbulletin backup facility is. Although as an experienced vbulletin user i know the best ways to make backups but not all people do. There is no warning in backup.php in the admincp that it may not work... I'm just disgusted at them implementing such a poor system for backing up and restoring. It's annoyed me soooo much. - miSt |

I use it and most of the time it seems to work ok. I don't have any other way to back up. phpmyadmin keeps timing out on me.

Not that i know of. Have never tried to use it. I'm pretty stupid about the db things. (And I'm damned ugly, too!)

Mist, I'm hoping this isn't to do with your live board, as i've heard many times how big it is...
Note to those who don't know though: do not backup using the adminCP unless your DB is about 1-2MB in size. phpMyAdmin will keep timing out when you try to restore + the backup may not be accurate and may be corrupt. Best way is the good old SSH/telnet . |

or the hack which is in the beta forums
but right now it's true, the backup feature isn't very useful, i hope it is for vb3 |

Even if it is useful, I'll still only use SSH!

Fortunately this is on a clients board and the host had conveniently made a backup the night before...
