Default Satellite Internet Connection (VSAT)

Hey there,

VSAT is an internet connection type via satellite. However unlike traditional satellite connections, VSAT is a two-way connection where both incoming traffic AND outgoing traffic is maintained though the satellite. Thus it does not require any other internet connections (like dial up) and with a VSAT package you can connect to the internet virtually from anywhere in the world, even from Mt.Everest.

I wonder if anyone is using VSAT here? I appreciate if anyone can tell me any Internet Service Providers who sells VSAT service. The country in which they are located is not very crucial at the moment and so every company you mentioned is appreciated.

Thanks in advance..

No, monthly subscription payments are getting cheaper everyday.. Initial installation is still expensive though..

I'll look a bit into this. My father mentioned getting it where he's at as all he can get is crappy dial up. But when he checked in on the prices, it was close to or over $100 per month (USD). Ouch.

Orbit Satellite Offers a couple plans, most are about $99 USD a month for the first year and then $60 a month thereafter.

Sunstore This place is about the same way. It looks like several hundred initial cost for the system, but many places have sales or significant discounts to offset that cost.

Although they have nice plans, its very suspicious that no where in their webpages do they mention about speed/bandwidth. I didnt even get whether it's 1Kbit or 1Gbit! There is only one small note in small fonts: "DIRECWAY System speed is NOT guaranteed and will vary." which is really shady..

I heard latency is much worse with the 2 way systems.. I have a 1 way and its better than dial-up by a long shot, but if I could get DSL or cable I'd switch in a second!

BTW, I was told that the DL speeds of the 2 way DIRECWAY satellites are about the same as the 1 ways.. If thats the case then you can expect 400-500k on average.

I heard of a new technology being developed in California. Read it in the newspaper this week. Will allow users of this fast internet connection to download WHOLE films in less than 5seconds!

You can imagine how fast that is
