Help with background text color

This may seem like a simple problem, but I can't seem to figure it out.

When I change the "body tag text" color it changes the color of all the regular text on the whole page. My forum is light colored and I want a dark colored background. If I use #000000 for the color of my regular text on the forum, then it is invisible on all the areas outside the forum table.

How can I change only the regular text (not hyperlinks) that falls outside of the actual forum table? Thanks in advance.
