If it's for testing purposes, why not install a test version using a new database and a different directory on your server?

i do, but one on my comp could replace the test board and theres no uploading required, just wondering if there are any big perks to having it on your comp as opposed to a test board on your server

Well, you can open the files directory into a text editor. so once you save the changes take effect. I keep one on my comp cause im on 56k and it takes longer to upload files/images to a server. Also the forum will FLY. and you dont have to worry about the server going down if you want to test something.

It is really nice to have, fast easy and quick to try things :P

It is easy to setup (use apache 1.3 NOT 2) and you can run vB on you computer :P

Good Luck

I just installed it on mine using filburt1's tutorial. Very easy and took around 30 minutes to do.

I highly recommend you always test vBulletin hacks and modifications on your computer. This goes for any website?s, because it's sooooooooo much easier to shift from application to application, and as mentioned by Anime-loo you can simply click the "save changes" button, and those effects take place instantly! I also greatly recommend that, if you are doing a huge remodification to your site, like a new style that consists of much new HTML coding, etc. DO NOT use vBulletin template editor! It's too damn slow, having to click and re-load, then go back to the same template, find your position again, make modifications, save, then repeat the process. It's good for simply regular hack installations, but I'm making a new style for my site and basically I started it off by creating HTML files on my desktop and designing the site that way. When I got enough of it done where I could start implementing it with PHP and integrating it into vBulletin, I imported the HTML into separate templates and put it in the database via ACP. This will same you a huge amount of time. Just a tip, as off-topic as that might have been ^_^;;

well, it's not needed if you just installing hacks on your vb, and write your restpage in plain html, but it's highly recomendet if you write your own php-scripts and install greater hacks for testings and so on..

I have had time to do so much on my comp rather than online - sometimes my free host for the testboard would go down or my internet was slow but offline everythings completely 100% fast and also it means i can develop my graphics and styles without the hassle of uploading them etc
