Ok I found out that we can edit ips of a user. Does that mean we can edit it to 1.1.1.1 and have that ip permanently banned? Or will the user after his post automatically change the options of his user id to the new ip he posted with?
What if the username is banned and we change the ip of the username to 1.1.1.1 and ban that ip? He will still be able to browse the board because we of course cant change the ip of his comp but then again, its a stronger way to ban a username, no? |

What he means is, that can he change the IP address of a user on his forum, and then ban the IP he changed it to, and will this mean that whenever the member tries to access the board in any way while logged in, he will get the IP banned message?
that's what he means. I can answer it partly, all the user will have to do to get round this IP ban that you set is log out. |

Yes, so far so good. Keeping a username banned cant be a problem but keeping them off the board is simply impossible due to damn proxies.
What I really would like to see implented is to ban an ip range on one user ONLY. Because if I ban all 192.168.x.x then all user with the specific range will be kicked out. If this could be applied to one user it would be awsome, but then again, that user can always log out and it wont be affecting him anymore. There just has to be a way to tag people to prevent them comming to a board anymore. Banning ips within username but still detecting if he is logging of and signing on with a new name and proxy. Allthough this is of course impossible :tired: |

It is completely impossible to ban a user, the only way is to ban his IP range completely, but he can still use proxies, and the downside is that everyone else in that range is also banned.
Banned users will always log out once they realise they're banned. This is a fight not worth fighting, as you will always lose. |

How about hiding the sign out button for the user? It might increase the chance and the eargerness to delete the cookies everytime the ban has been added. The point about banning is to keep the user busy long enough to make him feel he is wasting his time with resigning again etc to make him not want to do this more than nescesarry.
Of course I could always enable email to be recognized and ban emails but that would cause unescesarry troubles for other users. Or how about logging the sign in on the forums somewhere else than cookies as well? Maybe create a fiel in the reg db or create a file in the windows folder, or write to an already exsisting file? Would again consume much time and most users spamming/flaming are usually kids with a problem without any sort of know how on much else than the basics. |

Yes, isn't there a way to make it impossible for a logged in user belonging to the suspended or banned user group from logging out?
I'm very hesitant to do IP bans, since most trouble-makers are pre-pubescent teens accessing web sites from their family's dial-up connections. Kaelon |

A hack I just released, it will make it so a user cannot logout and it will also give the user blank pages all over the forum so he can't see anything at all ![]() |
