I've just spent a while looking through the site and can't seem to find this hack.

Basically all I want is something similar to the "send a PM when soemone signs up" hack, but one that creates a thread in a specfic forum with the title "Welcome xxx" and the contents is just a short welcome note.

Any ideas on whether this has already been done?

How sodding typical is that - the next thread I read though (which was the closest thing I had found to it, but was for notifying admins and mods of new users) has a link to a mod'd version of that script that does just what I asked!!
