Using something similiar to this hack.

I wanted to know if it was possible to protect an entire directory (.com/members/) which would have VirtuaNews in it, and not just single PHP files.

Yes you can. YOu'll need to either make a modification to an htaccess file, or have noe php "gateway" script.
