How about an 'Overheard' hack?
The idea of this hack is as follows:
It would generate a page where various funny things said in threads on your board can be quoted with a link to the profile of the user who said it and a link to the thread in question. Sort of like a "quotes" page but with a little more VB integration. For example, recently someone was 'Overheard' to say that a particular thread was so bad that Stephen Hawking rolled his wheelchair down a flight of steps because of it. Heh. It would be cool if there were a page where Admins / Moderators could go and enter that quote into the 'Overheard' database and put a link to the profile of the person who said it and a link to the thread / post it appeared in. Then users could perhaps visit a page called www.yourforumname.com/forums/overheard.php and view the various quotes entered by the admins. What do you think? If I had an ounce of PHP experience or any programming know-how whatsoever, I'd be inclined to take this one on. Unfortunately I'm about as skilled as your average rock when it comes to that sort of thing. |

I like the idea, Tungsten. Not long ago, someone posted a smart remark in our forum that was really funny. So I set up that quote on our home page (vbP) with a "click here" link taking the viewer back to that post on our forum page.
Easy enough to fiddle with for a single bit of text once in a while. But think it would be great to have a collection of them we could browse through, as you've suggested. Would love to see a hack that added this. |
