Hello there,
I've been searching around on this forum for an answer but haven't had any luck yet so I thought I'd make a post here.
I'm using vbulletin version 2.2.8 with vbportal 3.0
I uploaded some new smilies via FTP into my theme/ravioimages/smilies directory.
Then I "Added multiple smilies" via the admin cp. After that I could view the smilies in my forum smilie box area.
My problem is this: If I click a smilie to add it to my post it stops animating and most importantly no code is entered into the post. Thus the javacode does not seem to be working for the smilies. When my cursor hovers over the smilie it reads
javascript:smilie(")
So, after a fresh install here and uploading some smilies for the first time, I have managed to effectively screw up my entire smilie adding function.
Now I'm not sure what to do. I've seen some hacks for fixing the non-animating problem and I've also seen an update vbcode.js file but do I really need to update this with a new vbulletin 2.2.8?
I would appreciate any advice that might get me started here.
Thanks very much,
Ricoche

Thanks Mist, the recommendation you made fixed the animation problem.
I also didn't have the names written in the smilie section of the vb admin so that cured the smilies not showing up on the forums.
Now the smilies stay animated and are working just great in the forums.
New problem!!
The smilies are not showing up on the front page when I post news items. Most likely there is a template or path problem here. Any ideas on where to look?
Oops, this is a vbportal question. Oh well, maybe someone here might know anyway.
It's a vBPortal problem, and you need to ask about it at phpportals.com - however, to receive support for vBPortal you need to have made a donation on their support site.
However, let me give you a tip - go to your Admin CP, then to your Replacement, click Modify. You are meant to change the smilie path from a relative link to an absolute - ie. use the whole URL of the forums including the smilie subdirectory - this is part of the installation for vBPortal - you obviously didn't follow their installation instructions to the full. Check on their support site like I said, or go through your installation instructions again.
I figured out the problem. You're right it was a problem with my URL. I did look at the instructions again and it was listed there. For some reason I didn't understand it the first time around.
Thanks for the tip, and I'll be sure to properly post anything like this at phportals in the future.
