Flash Signatures

I know there are other forums like YaBB that allow you to have flash signatures with simple [flash 500,500]URL[/flash] tags. Can someone make a hack so that you can do that on vB and use it in your signature?

It's a huge security risk if you allow members to use their own flash files because flash files can contain scripts that can harvest passwords and other information. So be careful. You may have to physically check each flash file to verify them, and it's better that the flash files are uploaded rather than remote.

I think you can manage this just by adding a custom VB code. You'd have to get the HTML for the flash file to show up in IE, and just put {param} where it asks for the URL in the HTML.


Just looked some stuff up, and I think in simplest form the best thing to do would be create a custom vb code tag named flash or whatever you like. Tell it to replace the tag with

<OBJECT classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0">
<PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="{param}">
</OBJECT>

And it should work from there. I haven't tested this, so I'm not sure it will work. However, as the previous poster stated, there are extreme risks to allowing your users to do this. Should you proceed with this I suggest you moderate the movies they CAN have in their signatures heavily. Hope this helped.

Hmmm, it didn't work. I used that as my code replacement, my tag as flash, and when I did something like [flash]URL[/flash] I had no luck

I had flash signatures on my board, but recently removed them.

As Erwin stated before, vbulletin and the hackers here frown upon using flash "period" because of the security risks.

I found out first hand as I watched a member show me how it's done and it's nasty.

Alright, well for now I can trust my members, and not many of them have flash sigs. Anywho, how did you do it?

How do you go about disabling/banning flash signatures? I would like to disable them on my forums.

some members on my forum want me to enable this function.
