Yeah im sorry im not the smartest guy....but if as of right now im running vb2.2.4 with quite a few hacks ...actually alot. What would happen if i upgrade to vb2.2.8. Would i screw up my forum or can u really tell me what will happen. Im not sure i can do this so delete it if i cant...but u can see my forum here
?nd?rGr?und? ??tw??k

I really want to upgrade to the newer versions...just wondering if it will be worth it and how much work will i have to do to make my forum work again? Also will I lose all my hacks?

I really appreciate any input or answers ....ive only had the forum up since december so its not the greatest but i guess not the worst.

well your hacks will not work has you will be copying other edited files and that so the code will not be there has for how long just goes by how many hacks you got and how big they are.

Well you can check out this https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...threadid=38545

I'm thinking of tring it but I'm not sure about the template thing, I have installed the backup system, but do I need to revert it all or can I just leave it that way..

follow the instructions in TECK's thread 244 told ya.

you should really upgrade to the newest version, because vb224 is an unsecure version

templates: you can always compare vbulletin.style files and apply the template changes manually

I also would like to upgrade and i have added hackes in 2.2.7. From what im seeing not much changed but there are changes.

When i went from 2.2.6 to 2.2.7 nothing changed so would it be safe to go up once again?

Im in the same boat. Im at 2.2.4 and I REALLY don't want to have to redo all my hacks, but I REALLY want to upgrade. It took me forever to get my site where it is right now and I can't imagine doing it all over again. Oh well

You get the hang of it. 2.2.4 is highly susceptible to hacking, so if you are still at 2.2.4, upgrade. Don't wait until you are hacked. Upgrading takes less time than reloading a backup database.

How do you guys personally do it? Do you just manually reinstall all your hacks? Im wondering if I should just do it that way instead of this tutorial here.

I use Araxis Merge, and compare the 2 files side-by-side, and just copy over the changes. Takes me usually an hour and a half.
