Video in profiles

Any way to allow members to upload a video into their profile for other members to click on and view? One of my moderators thought this would be a great idea and I second it. That way people can have little introductory vids.

Can anybody make this possible and make it easy for people to do?

whoa....that would consume alot of space on your server, that is if you have alot of members who want to submit videos. There is most defiantly no way to upload videos through HTML, so you would first have to defiantly get the videos via FTP or maybe Direct Connect, etc. file transfer programs.

Then I think you could easily modify JJR512 Photogallery hack to instead show video files. You would have to have the main page thumbnails of each member be their avatar.

If you need further assistance I could probably help you out ^^;
But I'm not going to release a hack like this because it's practically finished.

like velocd said this is ganna take alot of server space and bandwidth, a better way would be making a new profile field asking for a link. of course this would force them to upload to anthor server. but it will show up in their profile without hacking

Why is it not possible to upload with HTML?

I'm not really concerned about bandwidth/space. I'll buy more if I need it. I don't suspect alot of members will use the option anyway. But on my board the actors might find it useful to show their skills with.

It neeeds to be as easy as possbile though. So hitting a browse button and uploading would be the best route.

I'll check out the photo gallery above. But it's most important to have it in the profile itself.

You can't upload via HTMl in a regular browser because of something to do with the browser timing-out, or refreshing, I'm not really sure what it is, I forget sometimes. I mean, if the video files are like 500kb in size or something you probably could, but if you're talking 4megs each, it's not possible. You could set up a public FTP do the directory that all the videos are stored at, and members can upload their videos that way.
