| request: welcoming thread upon registration

i would like a hack that creates a new "welcoming thread" in forum X when a user registers. the hack would create the thread imediately upon registering or after they confirm their e-mail address depending on if the admin requires e-mail confirmation or not. the standarderror page after the user registers or confirms their e-mail address would give them a link to their welcoming thread. good idea? i think so. now somebody go make it. |

It's not appropriate to ask a Moderator if he searched in the full releases but I really recall somone made it? I also recall I answered a thread in requests forum relating this subject a few months ago and I might have given the hack in that thread. If I'm wrong, sorry about it.. |

oh ok, so here you are.. A rough one but you can depend on the code and make further modifications.. BTW I didnt test it, but it uses the stable algorithm in my greetings for birthdays and user's X post hacks so I believe it should work.. Enjoy.. Logician |

Also, I am not sure where the new template code for "post_welcome_thread" begins and ends. I think this a GREAT hack! Thanks! - Gerry |

you just need to ADD it after the code. You dont delete the original code. "cut" there symbolize where the code block begins and ends... I didnt include the content of the "post_welcome_thread" template. You can design it as you like. Simply use a plain text message. It will be the message of your welcome thread. So for example use something like that: -------------- Dear Members, We have a new member: $bbuserinfo[username] has just registered our board.. Let's greet him with a warm welcome.. Site Admin ---------------- |

I registered as a new user and the new message was created just great...except...the template text was never inserted. I just got the title of the message with no body. I made sure to ADD the text right after the code you specified. I am stumped. Thanks for the help! Oh, the only other things I changed was to correct the forum ID to the new one I created and changed "Admin" name to my actual admin username. |

Disregard! I found that you had "post_greeting_thread" instead of "post_welcome_thread" in your SQL insert statement. Works great now! |
