Boxed Catogories?

I have been looking at www.digital-forums.com for inspiration, I really like their layout.

How do I list Forums in different sections/boxes e.g. Information, New Members etc etc

And, I have managed to move the 'Moderated by:' to the forum description cell, and remove the Moderators Col at the end. How do I tell it to only display 'Moderated by:' if there is a moderator set for that forum?

I think a little bit of their inspiration came from http://www.bsbrigade.com/forums/

If I could view the forums without registering, I would take another look but force registering is no way to get "real" members, only members wanting to see what the forum looks like.
