I just figured out how to find out which version of php I have (Thanks FireFly!), and I learned I have version 4.0.6. :s

I think the 4.1 is supposed to be better, but how can I go about upgrading? Is this something I can do or does it rely on my host server?

Unless it's your server (and it's not as you imply), you can't do anything about it. Your host must upgrade PHP.

Eeeew. Well, I won't hold my breath for my host to upgrade, but I will continue shopping around.
