in functions.php, find:

PHP Code:

        if ($avatarurl=="" or ($bbuserinfo[userid]>0 and !($bbuserinfo[showavatars]))) {
            $post[avatar]="";
        } else {
            eval("\$post[avatar] = \"".gettemplate("postbit_avatar")."\";");
        }

replace it with

PHP Code:

        if ($avatarurl=="" or ($bbuserinfo[userid]>0 and !($bbuserinfo[showavatars]))) {
            $post[avatar]='<img border="0" src="images/noavatar.gif">';
        } else {
            eval("\$post[avatar] = \"".gettemplate("postbit_avatar")."\";");
        }

now place a noavatar.gif image in your /images folder.
that should do it.

That won't work nakkid.

You need to replace this:

		if ($avatarurl=="" or ($bbuserinfo[userid]>0 and !($bbuserinfo[showavatars]))) {
			$post[avatar]="";
		} else {
			eval("\$post[avatar] = \"".gettemplate("postbit_avatar")."\";");
		}

with:

		if ($bbuserinfo['userid']>0 and !$bbuserinfo['showavatars']) {
			$post['avatar'] = '';
		} else {
			if (empty($avatarurl)) {
				$avatarurl = '<img border="0" src="images/noavatar.gif">';
			}
			eval("\$post[avatar] = \"".gettemplate("postbit_avatar")."\";");
		}
