microtime code and queries not pulled the right way?

i made this little hack to call the queries and page load:

PHP Code:

function getmicrotime() {
    list($usec, $sec)=explode(" ",microtime());
    return ((float)$usec + (float)$sec);
} 

then i added:

$microquery='';
getmicroquery(); 

in global.php.
it doesnt want to show where i insert the variable $microquery.

if i echo the content of the template instead, it will show at the top of each page. in global.php i add:

PHP Code:

$microquery=getmicroquery(); 

i miss something. can you please point me in the right direction? thanks.
