ok guys I have a bit of a predicament on my hands.. I run the site www.newcelica.org on which we have both a for sale section and a group purchase section. well recently it seems that people keep getting ripped off.. Now I know there is nothing I can do to entirely stop this from happening but I would like to try and help in some way so this is what I was thinking. A User Feedback option.. Add another field to the member.php area call it seller feedback or something of that nature.. make it so any user can go to the other users member.php area and can add to that feedback area.. make sense?? I think it might help out a little beet to weed out bad sellers.. what Id really like is something like ebay has with its seller feedback area but how their works like you have to purchase something through the buyer before you can leave feedback.. etc etc.. that would be soo nice but impossible to implement without a buyer/bidding system.. any ideas would be appreciated

One 'quick' way to do this is implement your forums such that when a thread is 'closed' within the 'For Sale/Wanted' forum you can make it a rule that whoever bought it the item can post on their experience...
1) a "For Sale" thread: You want to see how the feedback on Mr. Jones - you click a button that does a mysql query that looks in that forum for all threads Mr. Jones has started (selling stuff), that are closed, and extracts the message written by the last poster in the thread (the buyer) 2) a "Wanted" thread: Same as above but the person that started the thread is also the one making the last post regarding the purchase - in their last post they can put the Username of the person on the forums they bought the item from, and in their message list any comments.... etc. This way you would prevent others (who weren't directly involved in the exchange) from just leaving random comments on individuals in that forum. |

Swamper, your solution is a good one. Except it will become rather bandwidth hog.
I have exactly what you have done and now it has become a problem. Essentially, your putting a BANDAID on a deepcut! This should be a must for the Vbulletin people to work on. I am not nor have I ever been a EXPERT at VBulletin code. But if I were I would be working on this BIGTIME. We have supported VBulletin since the beggining, this is a DEFINATE MUST have, since alot of us care what happens to our members when they start selling and trading alot. More and more scammers are finding it easy to find site were members are vulnerable. WE NEED HELP VBULLETIN.ORG and we need help now!!!! I hope your reading this as a SOS cause it is. BowHunt |
