I am just getting into the who hacks and php thing and am fairly - confused

I would greatly appreciate it if you could check out the forums and let me know what you think and what could be done

I'm not sure, colors are about the hardest thing to decide on for me. They just seem too bright. What you might want to do is have a poll to see what your users think, maybe they like it fine. I just don't think I could spend much time there.

any one have any suggestions on other hacks I should add or ways of improving the site?

and possibly promoting it - I listed the site in search engiens - but other than that I want to increase the number of members and have a bunch of people posting
