Default Coinhive malware?
Some forum members are reporting coinhive script running in the forum.
I found complaint on other forums too.

Is this vbulletin specific?

It's entirely possible that someone is infecting forums through vulnerable plugins. Bit hard to say with all the information you gave us though.
