vBulletin 4 Request - hiding "attachments" that are used inline
does anyone have a solution for this??
in vb4 attachments are cluttered at the bottom of posts regardless if they are used inline or not.... ideally, and as in vb5....if they are used inline, they will not be displayed at the bottom of posts... i am tempted to hide the entire ".attachments" but of course that is a horrible solution as there are many posts which do not have images linked inline.....it could help for future posts as people would notice they do not appear, but its a deal breaker to loose all the images in existing posts so need a cleaner solution..... this is something that should be in vb4 anyway........i dont know how to write certain if conditionals and such but isnt there a way we can hide .attachments...only if they are used inline??? thanks from behalf of everyone who is running vb4 lol...hoping for a solution |

We use inline attached images at MHB, and they show only where they are placed within the post, and not in the attachments block at the bottom.

sounds like you have forced all inline images fullsized....i want to allow thumbs, but not double display them is all.... i know there is a bbcode to resize the images in post, but im thinking it might be too complicated for todays average user.... btw, the main difference ive seen is HOW they are attached....so of course, if the image icon in the editor is used they DO NOT double display, and show properly as thumbs....but via the "manage attachments" button they will show at bottom of post...regardless if they are linked inline or not..... thats basically what im after is vb5 functionality(for a change lol) |

The way we have it set up, if a user uses the "Manage Attachments" function rather than the "Insert Image" button on the toolbar, then it must be inserted inline, and if so, does not double display.
We use a lot of images of graphs of functions and other math related stuff, and for us thumbnailing of images is just annoying (I find it annoying anywhere...just show me the image already, don't make me click it to see it!). |

What I meant is that if the user chooses to use the "Manage Attachments" button in the "Additional Options" block in the advanced editor, then that user must choose to insert the image inline, otherwise it will show in the attachments box beneath the post content.
The user isn't forced to do this, but if the image is to be displayed inline, then that's what they have to do. I instruct my users to use the "Insert Image" button in the toolbar instead, as images attached (uploaded from their local media) will automatically be attached inline. Because of the inherent difficulty in this process, I wind up "fixing" a lot of posts. Unless an image is attached inline, it won't show up in the "Topic Review" and sometimes being able to see an image is critical for replying to the post. I have one user who refuses to attach images correctly (he also refuses to use LaTeX), saying it's just too difficult on his phone, and whiny, lazy mobile users are at the top of my "poop" list. |
