Is it possible to stop posts counts showing, but still have the db update? (in case you want to see who's spamming, or turn them back on at a later date)

couldn't you just take it out of the postbit termplate?
then check for yourself via. CP?

Also remove them from the getinfo template (profile), and privmsg template (private messageS).
