Too many redirects problem

Hi everyone, I have a forum that has been working for years, but I am now getting a "too many redirects" error in Chrome, Firefox says "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." and IE just says (rather unhelpfully) "This page can't be displayed"

This is happening when trying to access the public forum and when trying to login to admincp - the login screen appears but when I submit the login I also get the error.

The trouble is, I'm not on this forum much nowadays and I don't know when the problem started (I thought it had been quiet!!)

The .htaccess file in the root directory hasn't been edited for 18 months so I know that is not the cause of the problem.

How do I begin to start troubleshooting this?

do you have vbSEO installed? if yes, disable it and see if the issue clears up.

Turn off facebook.

Thanks guys, I do have vBSEO installed, however I can't access admincp to turn it off, because the same redirect issue occurs when logging into admicp (the login page comes up but when I submit my login credentials I get the "too many redirect" error).

Is there a way to disable vBSEO by editing a file?

As for Facebook, as far as I am aware it was never enabled.

I spoke too soon! The site comes up okay, but clicking on any forum or thread link just reloads the home page.

All I have done is modify the .htaccess file - I am unable to access the vbSEO control panel - it just loads my site home page!

In case it is relevant, my site is at mydomain/forums/ so it's in a sub folder off the public root, called "forums"

Any more ideas?

Open config.php and add the following to the top of the file (right under <?php)

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

This will disable all plugins. Set your .htaccess back to normal. Then you will be able to log into the ACP and disable vbSEO

what is going on at facebook? had exactly the same problem about 1,5 weeks ago and had to deactivate the fb-login.

Facebook changed [deactivated] something, which seems to have upset the old FBML code that older vb versions have.

YouTube did the same thing the other day, they seem to have deactivated something that older video embedding code relied on.
