I'm just curious how most forums, specifically, well established forums started off their first year. In my first year I received nearly 250 members, and these last two months another 250 members. How quickly did your forum blossom?

Facebook, Beacon ads, Google, and much invested in offsite SEO. The money I invested in SEO comes to around 2500.00$ which was thrown away. None of it did any good. With the SEO companies I paid for backlinks, when I stopped they took down the backlinks, which didn't affect my search engine placement.

I keep saying I will never advertise again or invest in "offsite" SEO. I plan on joining a support group so that I don't relapse and fall for another marketing scam.

I see.
Thing is, I'm posting on twitter with a page having the same name as my website. Whenever I tweet, number of users online goes up, but non of them registers.

Pretty much the same statistics as when I started my forum.

According to vBulletin's statistics:
~20 new legitimate registrations every day
~300 new posts every day
~25 new threads every day
~900 active members

Didn't invest into ads whatsoever, the community and what it is about is what attracts users to the forum.
A major feature of the forum is a (custom coded) chatbox in Node.js, extremely fast. Many users wouldn't come back without the chatbox.
