Email log info - trying to stop spammer
Someone is spamming E-mails through the forum and I cannot figure out who or how because the log file does not give any useful information. The only way I could stop the E-mails going out was to change the port setting for the SMTP server. I turned off all of the E-mail options I could find in the forums as well as renamed blog.php and sendmessage.php but the e-mails kept going through. Any info appreciated.

You should be able to blacklist the ip address via your server and your banning options.

I can not find out what the IP is as it is not shown in the email log.
I think I may have stopped them but I will not know for sure until the que clears out. |

You should be able to get that information from the email header. I am not sure what email client you use but you should be able to expand the header in Thunderbird and Outlook and get the info there, IP, email server, etc.

The E-mails are coming through vbulletin and into my mail server so the only IP they show is the mail server IP. The vbulletin mail logs do not provide any more info.

Do you have the captcha enabled under verification options? You could always turn off the contact page for unregistered users too. That is under the sitename/url section in the admincp general options dropdown.

What kind of emails are we talking about? Spam or vBulletin emails?
Are you sure your email server is not open to the world and can thus be used by anyone? (Open relay) |
