VB Veterans Recommendations

I have a site that I am trying to build and Im using VB5. I have ZERO experience with coding and Ive taught myself a lot by reading and watching youtube stuff, but its very difficult to get stuff going.

Im thinking of hiring a professional coder, but when I google search there are a bunch of different sites. Can someone please recommend a legit and respectable site where I can go and try to hire a coder to help me with my vb site?

and if I go to a site, what type of coder am I looking for? (I see stuff like javascript, php, html, asp coding, etc.)

What type of qualifications does someone need to work on VB5 sites?

It's very difficult to find coders for vBulletin 5, mainly because it has pretty much no API documentation released anywhere. Also vBulletin 5 its limited customization possibilities makes it less interesting for coders to work with it.

You'll be wanting to look for someone that has extensive PHP knowledge. You could try freelancer.com.

You might start out with listing the types of modifications you are wanting to implement. If it is styling you are wanting, there are seveal right here.

There are a lot of things that can be done with CSS, javascript/jQuery, and or just using a static html module. Depending on complexity, some help can be found here, a lot of times for free. There is also api that can be called via ajax/javascript or in custom templates. Custom database queries will require PHP.

Keep in mind, with the ever changing VB5, the modifications you do implement will probably require maintenance to keep them up to date with the current version which can end up with more costs at upgrade time.

A coder for VB5 will need PHP, javascript, jQuery, SQL, and html skills. There are many available for hire. Finding one that is familiar with VB5 is not so easy.

Even today, I'd really say it depends on what you want to do and what you're willing to live with. There are a lot of good things in 5, and better things are still coming slowly.

That said, I'd still have to carefully consider what I want to do with my community before jumping into any specific platform today.

Don't go with 5 yet... IF you're considering customizing "outside" the box as it were. I've heard rumors that the hook/plugin system is about to be re-introduced into vB5 as it was prior in vB4, if that does happen then you'll see an improvement to customization capability and a returned participation and hopefully back to normal modification releases for vB5 by coders here (finally!!! Cross your fingers is not "a little too late") so sit tight - hopefully that comes true, I'm about to go check for info to confirm .

Well there are currently only 2 hooks in the whole system, and they're waiting for feedback from developers in order to add more. If that's the case, we may need to wait another year to get same amount of hooks as vb4.
