Okay, well I think this would be a great idea, and hack for us users who really like to hack our forums. Now this really shouldnt be to hard, but then again im no coder (well not a good one)

A vB 2 vB importer, where users can import their CURRENT vB DB into another vB on the same server (say from folder forums to folder board) and import the DB from the forums one to the board one. Now you saying "snyx, what are you taking about, you just run some telnet lines, and budda bing, budda boom" WELL YOU GOT SOME NERVE BUDDY! LOL, no my vB importer JUST imports the BASIC mySQL tables. Not all the facy ones I have added over time, it just copys the main, baisc, starter, tables that vB is created with, and anything in them.

I have installed and run, COUNTLESS table changes, and additons, and I wanna start again. Clean slate, and re-hack them all, but I can't cuz all my tables are funked up! So I would like to know if anyone is interested in this, or writing this? Maybe there is a better way of doing so (chances are) or maybe it can't be done. But a little insight would be great!

... couldn't you just do a backup of the user table and then import it into the other site

sure, and backup all posts, threads, users, forums, leaving out all added tables, by hand. would be easier for me to learn php and write it.

to do a backup and restore a 500MB database file takes around 10 mins.. for me anywayz.. to write a hack it would have to do the same thing plus more and you would have to take into considerating the ' and the " inside it.

Actually this wouldn't be to hard.

Copy the database, then just list tables and drop ones that are not part of the standard. Then open each table and drop the columns which are not part of the standard.

It would take longer to colate all the column names than to do the coding.

I've asked about something similar and told it was a pain, but that someone over at vb was working on it. Of course my idea involved merging databases as well

Yup, Ive asked for the same thing... any respinse i realy got was to back the whole DB up.... That was of no help as you can tell... >_<
