Uprgade vb 3.x to 4.x - Remove vbseo.. Install dbseo or stock vbulletin ?
Hello,
I want to upgrade by vbulletin 3.x forum to vbulletin 4.x latest.. Not planning for vbulletin 5.x due to many patches released too soon.. and lot of loading issues, while testing on vbulletin..com I have vbseo still running on vb 3.x but dont want to proceed ahead with same on new 4.x as vbseo is dead. Should i replace vbseo with dbseo ? Or Is there someway I can import few customizations made to forumdisplay, showthread and showpost pages in vbulletin 4.x without much trouble.. Also let me know if DBSEO is better option.. as I dont want to waste time in SEO customizations. |

I have dumped vBSEO some time ago and did not bother with any replacement. If you make sure you have proper redirects in place, you probably won't notice much difference.

vB4 is much more search engine friendly than vB3, which is what led to the demise of VBSEO in the first place. You don't need it.

If you just have to convert your vBSEO URL's you could get the Pro version of DBSEO. It allows for a conversion of vBSEO URL'S pretty easily if you are not all that internet/code/IT savvy.

It is not completed list, I added quite a bit:
* without ID ? especially my favorite. Adds a lot of work. Usually 50-150 of folders with lots of .htaccess files inside Yes, I forgot, visit the Google webmaster, there you will find a huge list of external links to your site and all they have to work. |

Why ould you create folders with lots of .htaccess files instead of one .htaccess file with proper redirects in place? Even a php file as custom 404 doc with php redirects would be better. Such a file also is the method of choice if no ids are present - you obviously have to query the db then.

If the forums without ID that does not work on another
Example: Code:
www.site.com/forum-name/.... ( name of the forum without IDs ) www.site.com/sub-forum-name/.... ( name of the subforum without IDs ) www.site.com/attachmets/.... www.site.com/album/.... www.site.com/tags/.... www.site.com/members/.... Code:
www.site.com/showthread.php?t=XXXXX This is the most frequently used settings for VBSEO|DBSEO users And this is the most time-consuming treatment |

Of course what I proposed will work, if done right. Creating subfolders with a .htaccess in it for every forum, subforum and so on is just silly.
