Default Add/Import Product - Where Are Files Uploaded To?

Hi,

Just a quick question please if anyone can help?

In Admincp>Plugins & Products>Add/Import Product I've always uploaded the XML file directly from my computer to install each product/modification. However, I expected to be able to see the files I've uploaded in this manner in this folder: public_html/forum/includes/xml

Now, some I can and some I can't. I wondered if anyone could tell me if there's another folder they may have been automatically uploaded to. These are just single .xml files, that require no other files to be uploaded, so I assumed they would go to public_html/forum/includes/xml, but having searched all folders in fact I can't find some of these files anywhere.

The reason I ask: I'm now trying to uninstall a couple of mods from my vBulletin forum (running 4.2.2 Patch Level 2). I'm in the Admincp>Plugins & Products and am ready to uninstall but I also want to delete the associated .xml files to tidy up a little bit, but some of them just aren't there. I went through the whole process of installing and uninstalling just to see where some of the new .xml files might have popped up on the server but even the file for this mod I know I just installed (and works) I can't find anywhere! Bizarrely, after carrying out a search in CPanel File Manager it cannot find the specified .xml file I just installed in any folders at all, so unless it is being renamed during the install process, or isn't actually permanently uploaded at all then I have no idea what could have happened.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Many thanks!

For help with mods, you need to ask in the thread where you downloaded the modification from.

But for general reference on installing mods, you can read this, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=201864

In addition to what Ozzy said about issues with a specific product, in my reading of your question you seem to be confusing two different types of xml files.

The first type of xml file are the ones that required to be uploaded to the server, before installing the product, for the product to work correctly, such as cpnav_product_name.xml, bitfield_product_name.xml, cssrollup_product_name.xml and possibly others. This first group of files you should be able to see in your forums includes/xml folder.

The second type of xml file is the one typically called product-product_name.xml, which is the one you select when importing a product. If you are using the upload the XML file from my computer option, the file is not actually placed onto your server, it is merely uploaded, the contents of the file are then read in and processed to install the mod, it is then discarded by your server and is no longer accessible on the server.

Some product xml files show in includes/xml. They are vBulletin products like vbblog, vbcms, forumrunner, etc. But I don't see any xml files for imported products such as you make yourself or import from vB.org

Sure there is xml files in products from here, even includes/xml

The best way is to follow the instructions in the modifications thread on how to install each mod, as they all can be different.
