Ad management
Hey peops,
Occasionally I run accross an issue on some sites where the built in ad manager does not work. Ofcourse the easy work around is usually just to use the direct template.. for example ad_global_below_navbar Can any explain why this issue occurs and how to get the ad manager working? This system confuses me a bit because yes, on certain templates the ad templates were not placed..Like in the navbar template perhaps ad_global_below_navbar is missing. But if that code is there then why is the code being added to the ad manager not showing? I'm sorry if I am not making much sense..Have had the flu all week and am running on empty right now. I do not understand this ad system. When you place the code in the ad manager those ad templates are supposed to pull the code from there? Right? Any knowledge on this would be helpful, Thanks |

Thanks bro,
I should have explained in a little more detail I think. lol The ad manager shows fine but when you add any type of banner there it does not display in the site. |

If you currently have this situation, I would normally send to a log the raw and the final_rendered template text from the database. So you can see if/what/how the ad was processed or maybe it did not make it that far. (You can just look at the database if you cannot log.)
I will try to take a look at this, not that I will see the issue, but maybe I can point out a place where you can start to look, next time it happens. A few test points in the code usually tells you tons. One thing we do is to log data from troublesome routines, sure it slows down the site slightly, but the data is everything. You never have to log all users just a data sampling. Something for you to think about in your future endeavors. Hopefully, someone else has seen this problem and can report back. |

Thanks, I am still looking into this but it is not the entire ad manager. It is only some of the positions that do not work. I am trying to use the global under navbar position and this does not work but if I choose the above footer position it works there.
I also figured out that it is an issue with this particular theme. I am suspecting the css tied into the ad manager. I will use firebug to see if I can track it down. I think I almost got this. I was just not thinking last night. I did try a default theme but one that was already on the site so it could have been modified. Just now I create a new standard default vb theme and it shows there so now it makes things easier..was boggling my mind last night. lol Thanks mate! |

Check against the default un-modded vbulletin theme. It will at least give you a good baseline. Good Luck.
With that flu, I am surprised anything made sense. |
