Default Is it possible

Hi Guys

Our forum has become quieter over the years, with more peeps leaving the hobby. Is their a way to make new posts stay up longer than the vbulletin 24hrs for new posts.

Dave

Ignore this, read the thread below. I am getting tired and had to think about it for a second.

Are you referring to "Thread/Forum Read Marking Type", like when you use the tab on vbulletin.org called "New Posts". That of course is database or cookie driven depending on the setting in the Admin Control Panel (See Thread/Forum Read Marking Type) .

I thought you were refering to this line "The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts".

Thread Marking Options
  1. Inactivity/Cookie Based - once a user has been inactive for a certain amount of time (the value of the session timeout option) all threads and forums are considered read. Individual threads are marked as read within a session via cookies.

This option is how all versions of vBulletin before 3.5 functioned.
  2. Database (no automatic forum marking) - this option uses the database to store thread and forum read times. This allows accurate read markers to be kept indefinitely. However, in order for a forum to be marked read when all threads are read, the user must view the list of threads for that forum.

This option is more space and processor intensive than inactivity-based marking.
  3. Database (automatic forum marking) - this option is the same as a previous option, but forums are automatically marked as read when the last new thread is read.

This is the most usable option for end users, but most processor intensive.

Not sure of the best way to explain it. We had about 30 new posts, in existing threads yesterday. Today when I click on new post or All Today's posts, it now only shows 2 threads, where's as yesterday it would have been showing 30 different threads/posts. In another hour or so, the two that are now will be gone in an hour or so if know one makes a new post in them...

I rewrote the post above, check your ACP (using the reference I listed) and let me know what it is set to.

PS: Sorry, I got your hopes up... I am about falling over, due to needing sleep. I have been waiting for a series of tables to update before I can get some rest.

If you read the topics, then they're read for you. they won't showup in new posts.

It's no worries.

So this wouldn't be the case for members who haven't logged in, in a few days?

Why don't you just log out, use another browser or an incognito instance of your favourite browser and find out for yourself?

I did! I just logged in as another user. And it didn't show any post from yesterday when I selected new posts

So it does seem there's a 24hr cut of period, whether you have viewed the threads or not?
