Authentication question?

how would i go about making a user have to login to the "community" on a page that is out side of the message forum. For example, I want to have a chat room but at the same time i want people to have to register with vBulletin in order to even use the chat room and therefore be logged in to use the chat room. Is there a file I can just include in my php script that will do this functionality already? or what do i need to look for or do in order to create another page that uses the vBulletin authentication? would i just create another template called chat or something of that nature?

I've searched high and low on vbulletin.com and here and I've yet to find a definitive answer. This should really be part of an FAQ or something.

Personally, I'm using vBulletin on a private section of my site (http://www.interpug.com) and I'd like to make it so the entire private section (/private) is password protected via vBulletin's user authentication. I don't use PHPNuke or any other scripts, I just want to integrate it with the rest of the site.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just started messing around with user authentication on a non-vB page and was able to get it working by placing the following code at the top of the page:

if ($bbuserinfo[userid]==0) {
  show_nopermission();
}

?>

Only problem is that right now I can only get this to work on the protected page when it is inside the /forums/ directory.

I put in the full path to global.php /var/html/forums/global.php
