Facebook Application ID & secret

I'm going through the control panel and trying to familiarize myself with it and all the features and i'm seeing "Facebook Application ID" and "facebook secret". I tried to search to see what its all about but all i see is a link to a facebook developer page.

I was just interested in what is all about so i know what features and options are available to me if not for today the future. Whats that all about and what sort of features does it open up?

Yea thats right. You need to sign into facebook and create an app which will provide you with a application id and secret key. These will then need to be put into your facebook settings in your vbulletin forum admin panel.

This app is what sends the information between your forum and facebook.

What sort of apps are created in facebook that you would import/use in vb? I guess thats the part i am lost with.

The facebook app is whatever you make of it. It is used for any information transfer. Think of it as a telephone operator. It connects you to 2 different locations. The App itself doesn't do anything unless its instructed.

You can use it for mostly anything but you'll need to set it up or have it programmed to do so.

At this point, i imagine all it would be doing is enabling information to pass from a users fb account onto your forum when they click 'connect'

the other feature is it will enable your pages to be shared on fb if people click the like button and so on.

It will also hold statistics as well i think but thats not something i've personally looked into in any detail yet

There are additional things you can have build that can run through that app.
