A hack that would enable me to moderate all new users posts for x number of posts until they are allowed to post freely.
Lots of people like to join simply to advertise their websites or spam. |

I have a form of this in my WebBBS system, where I can add spam words as well as XXX words into the "naughty words" file. I then set CensorPosts = 2; This gives second level censoring where it moderates the post rather than replacing words. Of course, WebBBS allows phrases as well as words in that file. Let's see how many of these get through... looking for distributor Famous brand cigarettes shop online reasonable prices Duty free around the world International Market Geneva Switzerland developing countries Strategic plan professional team efficient business sole agency diamonds exporter visit our website visit our web site promotional marketing campaign thousands Check out the site site has been updated Check out my site |

Unfortunately, after searching this and other vb sources, no answer to this dilemma is forthcoming even after four years. I'll take your post as a nudge in the corrective direction to not answer old posts. |

If you are running vB3 you can use promotions.

Hi Zachery,
I am setting up a new V3.0.3 coming in from WebBBS. I now have 65,000 posts converted. I am using promotions and I have set up additional groups, all with different permissions. 98% of my users are good folks, who intend no harm, but sometimes they post up stuff that is questionable at a moments notice. The other 2% are spammer duds that ultimately end up on the banned list or in the firewall. I would like to give newly "registered" users posting privileges and I'm just looking to further automate the flow of normal postings without causing undue restriction or having to take on a high moderator work load. This is the first that I'll be using confirmed registrations with email addresses, so this may very well knock out some of my spam problems. Censoring a post by replacing the "word" with a "*" or other insert is OK, but I'd rather moderate that particular post and have a look at what's going on before it sees the light of day. The "*" most likely indicates a problem with the post, which could easily come from a long term "registered" user. Hopefully an update, mod or hack will come along that will intercept a post by key word content into the moderated stack - from ANY user with ANY permission level. -- Harry |
