Currently i have an ssl installed, but it seems to have a severe impact on the speed of the site due to having to request the ssl info. How could i simply encrypt the login process on vbulletin, when every page on the forum has the login bars?

You have a Secure Socket Layer installed? On what? Where? How was it installed? I don't have any answers, but I think the question is very vague and unless you can rephrase and expand on it you're not likely to get too many useful responses.
