I'm thinking of making what I would call a "style negative".
Since every color code has a negative, if I took a style's xml and reversed every color value with it's negative value and then did the same with every image (using an image editor) I think I should come up with a style that's still readable. For example, if I used the style generator to create a style with white (#ffffff) as the basic color. The negative basic color would be black (#000000). Sound crazy? |

Doesn't sound crazy Gary... just not sure how it would look. Likely depends on the original style used to make the negative I guess.

I wonder how many different styles would wind up mostly black and gold if reversed? It's a intriguing experiment.

If they started with the same colors as I've shown above? all of them.
For example, this image is the negative of this vb page. ![]() --------------- Added 10 Jan 2014 at 13:31 --------------- I made up these basic color blocks to more easily visualize positive to negative colors. ![]() and... ![]() --------------- Added 10 Jan 2014 at 13:44 --------------- Just thinking out loud .... after making a negative version of a style, there could be a ... ![]() placed somewhere on page to quickly switch from one to the other? For example to go from sunny bright conditions to dark conditions. Would be more handy for gamers as they seem to prefer darker styles. |

I think it might work best for sites that use a lot of different colour settings. Most boards will use the same or very similar colour samples for several different CSS classes in close proximity. Look at the background colours for post message area, post bit, and main table wrapper. They will all create black or almost black. If it was a wider range of colour than the negative would also have a wider range. What would be the advantage to this set up rather than designing another colour palette?

Doing a negative of any site would be very easy but time consuming. This entire project is based on (I hope) an alternative view of the same style. Not just changing certain css values or images but ALL. I plan on getting started on this project in the next day or so after I finish a gaming site I'm doing for a friend on E107. When I finish this project I'll post where it can be gotten. It will of course be free. |
