Hello all,

Reading the newsletter that vBulletin sent out yesterday informing the release of 4.2.2, came across the paragraph:

This release also includes a marketplace plug-in from Panjo. If your community operates a classifieds section, Panjo is a convenient way to improve how your users buy and sell items on your site. You can optionally use Panjo to generate revenue for your site. The plug-in is included in 4.2.2, and we'll be adding it to vBulletin 5 Connect in the near future. You can get more information at panjo.com.

At once came in my mind the post: Are you a Fortune Teller? by Christos Teriakis. If you read it you'll see that in the 2nd paragraph he wrote:

vBulletin will partnership with software companies to sell on its own popular addons. Just like with Skimlinks and Forum Runner now, you'll see Classifieds, Reviews, Galleries etc, to be officially intergraded with vBulletin. That's why don't expect to find any competition to them from single coders/designers. Thus, you like it or not, you'll have to buy them in any price they ask for. And you know very well what happens if there are no competitors.

So now you know........ And he wrote it 7 months ago !!

He must think people are sheep. If a coder or designer can come up with something better, different, and or cheaper, what then?

It's a free market out there in the world, and people know quality. They also know sh*t when they see it.

So now you know......it don't matter if Vbulletin rolls it out or not. It's who comes out with the better product in my opinion.

I find it even weirder that the panjo mod added to 4.2.2 won't let you uninstall it! and even when it's disabled it still won't let me run our Classified mod. I contacted Panjo via email and they don't even support .co.uk I also asked for instructions on how to remove this add-on from our forum, I'm still waiting on a reply.

I think there should be an option when upgrading to 4.2.2 whether or not you would like to install panjo or not, seeing as it's not supporting the uk.

I know this mite seem unrelated to this topic, but IMO it's not.

As you know the files are included, but the product is not activated. I am only stating this in case others get worried that it is automatically activated.

What classified MOD are you running that you are having problems with?

It's Christos Mod, In a post this morning on his forum, he seems to think that:

Tricksodave is reports that after upgrading to 4.2.2 the Tab menu of Classifieds points to Panjo Marketplace. This company knew that there was another addon (my) using the same phrase. They did it deliberately to mess your system.

In any case, I want to inform you that I don't plan to change anything in my code. If someone needs to make changes this it the owner of the new coming mod/service and not me.

I'm no coder by any stretch of imagination. I have already mentioned some of the problems I'm having on a thread on here, even if panjo is disabled when I go to our classifieds it says panjo market. I'm not looking to take sides in any of this business, all I want is a mod that isn't supported for the uk to be removed and it won't let me.

Panjo used the same filename with a mod which was in market much earlier than their product.

Are you referring to this:

This will change the error reporting options within vBulletin on the first hook that is run.
If you have vBulletin Suite (i.e. Blogs / CMS) or you have the Panjo Product enabled, this setting will pretty much disable the Strict & Deprecated messages anywhere.
This is because all three of those products use the "init_startup" hook.

If you dont actually have any of those running, you can create a dummy plugin yourself - use the "init_startup" hook, and just put a comment in the php section.

Chris as helped me get the classifieds mod working. But I would still like to fully uninstall panjo, especially seeing as there is no UK support to start with. If I'm being totally honest I wouldn't be 100% sure to what Paul is referring too or know how to do what he's saying.

I was referring to the error you reported, probably solution #4 will work in your case, it is a file edit.

On a side note, I am not trying to defend, vBulletin, Christos or Panjo/Enthusify, but IMO both Christos and Panjo are at fault, as a developer, you should make sure your filenames are unique, so this type of thing won't happen.

Only mods I have seen this type of conflict, that HAVE to use the same file name is the various arcade mods. This is due to how the scores are recorded, and need the file to be named arcade.php
