Default Help with album photos - VB4

I've been up for 18 hours trying to figure out the limitations of photo albums. As usual vbulletin+google = poor results. As does searching this forum for answers. I'm in shock I'm the only one asking these questions, but hopeful that it's because I'm just over looking something extremely simple.

1) Why when I upload certain photos does a white question mark pop up, blocking the image and preventing me from posting it "inline" on my posts?

2) Is there any way at all to use the photos in your "Home" folder (where they sit when you upload the attachments/photos in your album) when on a smartphone? Currently I can only see the "drag and drop" option, which I can't do on a smart phone. I really can't just check off the ones I want? Or hard button select them? Is drag and drop REALLY the only option?

*update*

1) I found out that the only photos, regardless of size or shape, that will actually appear in VB are .PNG ang .GIF files. JPEG, JPG, and BMP will not. Of course iPhone photos are .JPG.

You need to go to your ACP --> Attachments --> Attachment Manager then click on the Add New Extension button, and fill in the extension name and sizes you want to add.

ack! I was excited to see a response. Unfortunately, not a helpful one. If I spent 18 hours and didn't figure out how to set the extensions and sizes, then I'd need to get a new job :P.

I've tested different configurations of sizes, dimensions, file formats, etc. Both in the ACP->Attachment Manager settings as well as creating a multitude of different images to test with. The ONLY images that would produce a thumbnail and show up 'inline' on posts were those with a .png and .gif extension. The other file formats would load, but with a big white "?" instead of a thumbnail, and then if you tried to post them 'inline' on a post it would only go in as a link. Even in the album it would show up as a link you'd have to click to see it.

Any other advice is highly anticipated. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond!

Let me add that I suffer from another 'error' of sorts that seems to have only been noted in a thread years ago with no resolution to it. Just ONE thread. Anyway, when I do go into the "attachment type" settings, for EVERY extension I see the following:

Warning: Illegal string offset 'package' in [path]/admincp/attachment.php on line 1369

Warning: Illegal string offset 'class' in [path]/admincp/attachment.php on line 1370

Warning: Illegal string offset 'package' in [path]/admincp/attachment.php on line 1369

Warning: Illegal string offset 'package' in [path]/admincp/attachment.php on line 1383

Warning: Illegal string offset 'class' in [path]/admincp/attachment.php on line 1383

Followed by a "Content Type" table that only has the values of A, P, S under "Product". I can't assume these are related, since the .png and .gif extensions show these same errors.

Version is 4.2.1

Well, my PNG files are the ones that work already, but in the event you stumbled across some wacky work around I put in all the settings you suggested. No dice. I'm assuming I'm just missing some kind of code that does the thumbnails/resizing? but heck if I know what or where it should be.

One problem I believe you have is that another modification is corrupting your data store. I have seen mgc_chat do this on several other boards.

To begin with disable your hooks and see if some of your errors go away. Make sure you rebuild your datastore after doing this. Let me know how that goes. Hopefully we find something out.

So, full back story is that we just took over a site from another owner and I'm doing the set/clean up on it and I'm fairly new to VB. I say that so I can then ask:

Attached is a list of the "Installed Products". My question is, does VB4 come with any default products installed? Meaning, all these things with lines through them, can I safely just delete them?

I know the "reply to all PMs" and "PhotoPost Pro" are two mods that I won't be able to part with, but I may be able to shut them down temporarily for testing. My board would go ballistic otherwise.

Also, if it's not too much trouble, what do you mean by "rebuild your datastore?"

Until you familiarize yourself with vBulletin, I highly suggest you do not delete the products -- just disable them. If you have deleted a product, make sure you have deleted their associated files. When you delete a product it does not delete the products files and in some cases this can lead to problems. Typically the problems occur due to permission bitmasks or "xml" files -- if you do not understand what I am talking about, then just do not delete products for now.

If you have added or deleted a product already then the datastore has already been rebuilt.

Make backups and make small changes. I would just get the existing board up and running and then make small changes while you are learning. Do your learning on a local test board (a copy of your production board).

The full story helped, now I know how to assist you.

And... it is not to much trouble, if it wasn't for the great people around here I would have been in the dark too!
